CONCEPT
THE PROJECT AIMS TO RETHINK HOW MODERN URBAN HOUSING SHOULD INTERACT WITH ITS URBAN SURROUNDINGS. BY TRYING TO RETHINK HOW THE LOWER PART OF A BUILDING (GROUND FLOOR) SHOULD BE DESIGNED AS A PUBLIC SPACE FOR THE WHOLE NEIGBORHOOD. WHILE THE UPPER FLOORS ARE PURELY RESIDENTIAL. THE TERRACE ON THE LAST FLOOR WHICH IS TIPICALLY PRIVATIZED OR NOT EVEN ACCESSIBLE IS A PUBLIC SPACE IN CIRCLE LIVING WHICH IS ACCESSIBLE BY ALL PEOPLE LIVING IN IT.
FORM
INSPIRED BY THE FORMAL LANGUAGE OF VILLAGE STRUCTURES IN THE ALPS. CIRCLE LIVING ADAPTS THIS FORMAL LANGUAGE INTO A SMALLER SOLUTION SUITABLE FOR SMALL INDEPENDENT HOUSING ENCLOSURES. BY TRANSFORMING THE RECTANGULAR SHAPES INTO CIRCELS THE MOVEMENT BETWEEN THESE GETS SIMPLYFIED. THESE CIRCLES WERE THEN EXTRUDED OVER THE ENTIRE HEIGHT OF THE BUILDING. A RECTANGULAR BLOCK STRUCTURE WAS USED IN THE CENTRAL PART OF THE BUILDING TO MAKE THE ROUND SHAPE STAND OUT.
